84日目 -National Academy of Sciences-

バスに乗って寝れずにボーっとしていた。が、なんだかいつもと道が違う気がする。
あんな石油発掘所みたいのみたことない。
霧も濃くなり施設の煙突から出る炎がなんとも異世界のようだ。
しまいには今まで来たことないところで停車して客を降ろす。
NYのジンクスもありもう不安で不安で堪らない。...

しかし次にボルティモアに着く。他の客の「ここもうDC?」の発言に一応安堵した。
道はまだいつものラインに入らず、変な道を行くが虹を見つける。
アメリカの虹は太くて大きいが色が日本より少なく見えた。
なんとか無事帰れて家で睡眠が取れた。
(あとでChikaさんから聞いたのだが、道は合ってたらしく、
今までそれらを見逃していただけらしい。それにしても見逃しすぎだろう俺。)
昼頃また起き上がる。早く食材を食べつくさねばと大目にパスタを茹でる。
最後の数日で太るんじゃないかな俺。
料理中、Jamesが2階から降りてきた。
そういえばもう報告せねば、と「Hi James,I'll go back to Japan at 28th」と伝える。
Jamesは「もう3ヶ月経ったのか・・・。」とちょっと悲しそうだ。
俺も「いい日々だったよ。」とこの3ヶ月を遠い目で振り返る。
今後の予定などを少し話し、部屋に戻る。たった3ヶ月でも別れは寂しいもんだ。
それでもまだアメリカ生活は残っている。
ネットで無理くり調べて見つけたNational Academy of Sciencesに行く。
ここは地球の循環システムや人々の生活エネルギーから、脳の仕組みなども学ぶことができる。
建物自体はかなり狭いが、読み物やタッチパネルで操作して
情報を勉強できるモニターなどがあり、じっくり読めばいつのまにか時間を忘れてしまいそうだ。
だいたい見て廻ったのでそこをあとにする。
また家でネットをし、今度は夜の予定を調べる。
どうもHR-57というところが評判らしいので行ってみた。
店に入りメキシカンに入場料8ドルを渡す。俺の他にカップルしかいない。ちょっと早すぎたか。
演奏も始まっておらず、演奏者は喋っている。
とりあえずなにか食べようと店員にメニューを頼むが、「ない」と言っているようだ。
どうやらワンプレートしか料理はないらしく、それを注文することにした。
するとすぐ出てきた。が、見たことない料理だ・・・。
ライスの上に豆を煮たものと、なにか青菜のようなものがかかっている。
あと鶏肉のフライだ。ちょっとこう言っちゃ悪いが、おいしそうではない。
でも食べてみるとなかなかおいしかった。
考えたが、俺はなんでもおいしく食べられるタイプの人間だからいいが、
他の日本人なら「これで8ドル？」と思うかも。
客が一人増えたところで演奏が始まる・・・下手だ。特にドラム。
よーく見るとなんだか見覚えのある人。
あーColumbia Stationでドラムをたまにやってる、いつもリズムとソロがよれよれの人だ。
いろんな店を掛け持ちしてるのか。
今度は団体客が入ってきた。彼らは音楽よりどっちかと言うと飲みに来ているようで、
一曲終わっても拍手をあまりしない。音楽を聴きに来ている人は俺と隣の人くらいか。
でもまぁいろんな楽しみ方があるからそれでいい。
拍手もまばらだが、そこそこ人が増え演奏者も乗ってきたのか演奏がうまくなってきた。
ベースの人と何度も目が合う。なんだか「帰るなー。聴いてけー。」と言っているようにも見える。
やっぱ演奏にもテンションは大事だよね。俺も演奏者を盛り上げようと一人果敢に拍手をしておく。
そこそこの時間楽しんで、平日はこんなもんだよな、とチップをおいて店をあとにした
