Some random thoughts and review of the show... a little bit about Jamie and Cersei from Game of Thrones as well.
I watched season 3 Caligula last month from Netflix.
I didn't like the documentary narrative part... felt like I was in high school history class... Didn't like that.
I preferred to watch it like a show, like an entertainment.
Oh well... but overall it was interesting.
There was siblings incest. Reminds me of Jaime and Cersei from Game of Thrones.
The big difference from Jaime Cersei was that Caligula had three sisters and he had relationship with all of them... ok, that reminds me more of the House Targaryen in Game of Thrones.
Also Caligula favored one from another.
His favorite was Drusilla, the most beautiful one...
How must his other sisters felt about that, creating jealousy among sisters...
However Caligula trusted all his sisters more than anybody, giving them good positions in court.. yet his sister betrayed him. His very own sister who shared the same father and mother betrayed him and tried to assassinate him. The one who did that was not his favorite sister Drusilla but another one, Agrippina. Agripinna also had sexual relationship with Caligula, yet she betrayed him.
Caligula was very shocked and angry, yet he did not kill her. He sent her to exile.
She returned to Rome after the death of Caligula and she married her uncle, the next emperor. She was the mother of Nero, and she became the empress.
And one more thing. Joffrey Baratheon in GOT( Jaime and Cersei’s psychopath son) is modeled after the Caligula who was known as an extremely cruel and sadistic.
So... about Caligula...
He was known as the mad emperor. He was crazy and cruel. However , he was not like that from the start.
As an emperor, he became paranoid day by day.
I guess as an emperor or a king, one can be very paranoid so I understand they turn to family, but sometimes, own family members can betray.
Caligula's only true Love was his sister Drusilla. He loved his sister Drusilla so much that after she died, he made her the GODDESS. His strong love for her was clear. I wonder if Jaime loved Cersei as much as Caligula loved Drusilla.
Clearly Jaime loved Cersei a lot. However he was not smart enough to protect her from abuse and her downfall.
I have friends who say to me that they did not trust Jaime's love for his sister because he listened her for asking him not to kill Robert, yet he did not listen her when she said NO in sex and other things such as killing her enemies. He also left her behind in Season 8. If he did not like her actions, he should just have kidnapped her and locked her in cage but he should not just leave. If my own family members start to do crazy things, I would try my best to stop them with force, but I would never leave them!
I mean... Robert was abusing Cersei, yet Jaime could endure... But he could not endure Cersei killing her enemies and betraying Daenerys Targaryen?I also thought what the fuck was that.
Why was he so nice to other bitches and not his own twin? How could he stand Robert?
I also think Jaime should just ignore Cersei when she told him not to kill Robert. He should just killed Robert for her. He also should not just leave her alone and ran to save Tyrion when Tyrion was kidnapped. How could he leave Cersei with that abusive Robert?
He should have done more for her... not throwing a boy out of window but do something with her abusive fat ugly husband, do something about their abusive father!
No wonder some of my friends questioned his feeling for Cersei. Some of them say he did not love her but he was just obsessed having sex with her... Well, he did rape her, probably not once but several times.
He did it anyway even when she said No 100 times. It was in the book.
Yet, I do not want to question his love for Cersei... He was just not very smart...
In the end, he still went back to Cersei... so I believe his love for her.
No humans are perfect.
Perfect humans are boring anyway.
If he has brain, after he killed the Mad King, he would kill Robert and maybe Jaime himself could become the king or let his father could become the King.
That will prevent Cersei from marrying Robert, too.
I do not love my sister the way Jaime loves Cersei, but I would never want any of my family members to marry a man like Robert and I would work hard to destroy it.
His love for Cersei was strong, too strong and toxic, obsessive, yet he is bad at decision making.
He listened to Cersei when he shouldn't and he ignored her when she needed him. FOOL.
I love them though. They meant to be together.
