He said he did not want his illness to get in the way of decision making, and apologised to the Japanese people for failing to complete his term in office.

イギリスでは、ようやく9月から学校が再開されることになりました。
会社の方はどうなのでしょうか、、、。

Some 24 firms said that they did not have any plans in place to return workers to the office.
However, 20 have opened their offices for staff unable to work from home.
It comes as many employees return to work from the summer holidays with the reality of a prolonged period of home working becoming increasingly likely.
The BBC questioned 50 big employers ranging from banks to retailers to get a sense of when they expected to ask employees to return to the office.
One of the main reasons given for the lack of a substantial return was that firms could not see a way of accommodating large numbers of staff while social distancing regulations were still in place.
Many companies said they were offering choice and flexibility to those who want to return, particularly in the banking and finance sectors.
A few firms have already announced they have no plans to return to the office until late autumn, and Facebook has said it does not plan a return of employees until July 2021.

イギリスのニュース！地中海を渡る移民について考える。
暖かくなると、連日のようにイギリスのニュースで報道される移民問題。
アフリカから地中海を渡り、さらにフランスからドーバー海峡でイギリスまでやってくるという現実の話。
日本で育った私には、想像できそうで、できない。
命を危険にさらしてまで、不法な移民船に乗って、不法移民になりたい人が現実に存在するのです。
少しでも分かるように、ニュースを訳しつつ勉強したいと思います。

At least 45 migrants and refugees, including five children, have died in the deadliest shipwreck off Libya this year, the UN refugee agency says.
They were among more than 80 people on board a vessel whose engine exploded off the coast of Zwara, the UNHCR said.
The deaths were reported by some 37 survivors rescued by local fishermen.
Both the UNHCR and International Organization for Migration (IOM) have called for search and rescue efforts for migrants to be stepped up.
They said that without a dedicated search and rescue operation mechanism, more lives would be lost in the Mediterranean.
More than 300 people are known to have died trying to cross the sea from Libya to Europe this year, with the actual figure believed to be much higher.
Since the 2011 overthrow and killing of its former leader, Muammar Gaddafi, Libya has become a key transit country for migrants.
But conditions for migrants there are dangerous, with the UNHCR and the IOM warning they were "at risk of the ongoing conflict, severe human rights violations, and arbitrary detention post-disembarkation".
The survivors of Wednesday's shipwreck, who were mainly from Senegal, Mali, Chad and Ghana, were detained after they disembarked in Libya.
There are reports of migrants being treated appallingly in Libya, especially if they fall into the hands of militiamen and traffickers, who abuse them and try to extort money from them.

VJ Dayとは、 Victory over Japan Day つまり1945年8月15日。
日本の終戦記念日は、イギリスでは日本に勝った日「対日戦勝記念日」なのです。
今年は75年記念で、通年よりも注目されている気がします。
例年は、イギリスで終戦と言えば、 ドイツが降伏した1945年の5月8日が主に注目されています。
当日は、テレビで式典の中継をしていました。
それに関するニュースを訳してみました。

日本の終戦記念日は、イギリスでは日本に勝った日「対日戦勝記念日」なのです。
今年は75年記念で、通年よりも注目されている気がします。
例年は、イギリスで終戦と言えば、 ドイツが降伏した1945年の5月8日が主に注目されています。
当日は、テレビで式典の中継をしていました。
それに関するニュースを訳してみました。

The fighting in Europe had ended in May 1945, but many Allied servicemen were still fighting against Japan in east Asia.

でも、いまひとつ理解できない、、、、。

コロナの経済対策、イギリスはどうなの？
イギリス政府は、被雇用者には休業中の給与を補填しています。
個人事業主にも、前年の収入を参考に補助金を出しています。
まだまだコロナの影響が続く中、個人事業主への新たな補助金のニュースがありました。
こちらはBBCニュースから抜粋したニュースです。
Millions of self-employed people whose trade has been hit by coronavirus can now apply for a second support grant from the government.
More than three million people may be eligible for the payment of up to £6,570 each, which Chancellor Rishi Sunak said would be the final hand-out.
The first grant, launched in May, saw £7.8bn claimed by 2.7 million people.
A number of self-employed people, such as directors who pay themselves in dividends, freelancers, and the newly self-employed, are unhappy at missing out on the government's self-employment support package.
The Treasury Select Committee called on ministers to plug the gaps to fulfil the government's promise of "doing whatever it takes", but Mr Sunak defended "the right policies for the first phase of the crisis".
The system is the alternative to the extended furlough scheme for employed workers.
The Association of Independent Professionals and the Self-Employed welcomed the second round of grants.
But it said the government must be ready to reopen and "extend it to the desperately struggling forgotten self-employed" in the event of a second wave of the coronavirus.
