COVID-19 in Japan news round-up

Japan has begun a new chapter of the pandemic − albeit one fraught with fresh challenges − after national coronavirus countermeasures were lifted completely for the first time in nearly half a year.
The health ministry has asked the nation’s prefectures to beef up their health care systems and create a more resilient means of dealing with a projected sixth wave of infections this winter.
With the end of Japan’s COVID-19 state of emergency, the central government will lean on governors to prevent a rebound in coronavirus cases.
A delta-driven surge in COVID-19 cases is coming to a faster-than-expected end in Japan, but experts warn another wave of infections may be just around the corner.

The furlough scheme will be extended across the UK until the end of March, Chancellor Rishi Sunak has confirmed.

Mr Sunak said the scheme will pay up to 80% of a person's wage up to £2,500 a month. He told the Commons that the government will review the policy in January.

The chancellor said his intention was "to give businesses security through the winter".

"The security we are providing will protect millions of jobs," he added.

The furlough scheme subsidises the wages of people who cannot do their jobs, either because their workplace is closed or because there is no longer enough work for them.



訳してみました。

英国において、自宅待機中の給料補償政策を3月末まで延長することを、リシ・スナック財務大臣が発表。
スナック氏は、一人当たり一月の給料の80％、最大2500ポンドまで支給すると発表した。
政府は1月にこの政策を見直す予定であると述べた。財務大臣は、冬季の営業収益の確保を図るのが目的だと述べた。
この度の政策は、数百万の雇用の維持を促すと付け加えた。
自宅待機中の給料補償政策は、職場の閉鎖や仕事内容がなくなってしまったなど、仕事をすることができない人々の給料を助成する政策である。

政府、発表が遅すぎるよぉー。っていうか、わざとなの？？？

イギリスのニュースを聞いていて、 Isle of Wight　,oil tanker,　という言葉が耳に入ってきました。
遠くに停泊している船を実況中継している感じの映像です。

なんだろ？？事故があって、オイルでも漏れたのかな？
ワイト島は、そんなに遠くではないので、ちょっと興味がありますが、テレビのニュースではどうもよく分からない。

テロリストなんて言葉も聞こえます。

Military assistance has been requested over an "ongoing incident" on board an oil tanker situated off the Isle of Wight, the BBC understands.

The crude oil tanker, the Liberian-registered Nave Andromeda, is known to have stowaways on board and was due to dock in Southampton earlier.

Richard Meade, editor of shipping news journal Lloyd's List, said there were thought to be seven stowaways on board.

He said it was believed they had become violent towards the crew.

BBC defence correspondent Jonathan Beale said Hampshire police had requested military assistance but it was not clear what support had been requested "and whether it will be activated or requested for back up".

初めて聞いた単語です。
これから頻繁に耳にしそうな単語ですね。

コロナ対策のニュースが、まだまだメインのイギリスですが、もちろんBrexitの政策も続いております。
この度のニュースは、日本との貿易協定についてです。

Britain and Japan have formally signed a trade agreement, marking the UK's first big post-Brexit deal.

The deal, unveiled last month, means nearly all its exports to Japan will be tariff free while removing British tariffs on Japanese cars by 2026.

UK International Trade Secretary Liz Truss called it a "ground-breaking, British-shaped deal".

But critics have said it will boost UK GDP by only 0.07%, a fraction of the trade that could be lost with the EU.

The two countries had reached a broad agreement in September, and the deal is expected to boost trade between the UK and Japan by about £15bn.

The deal, which was negotiated over the summer, will take effect from 1 January 2021.


訳してみました。

英国と日本は正式に貿易協定に著名した。英国の最初の EU離脱後の取引となる。

先月に開示された取引内容によると、2026年まで日本車への関税を撤廃する一方、イギリスの日本への輸出品のほぼ全ての関税が撤廃される。

リズ・トラス英国国際貿易相は、草分けの英国的な政策であると述べた。

しかし、評論家たちの間では、英国のGDPを0.07％押し上げる程度の影響しかなく、EUとの間で失われた貿易に比べると些細なものであるとしている。

両国は、9月に大筋で同意していて、その政策はおよそ150億ポンドまで両国間の貿易を押し上げると期待されている。

無知な私はあまりピンとこないのだけれど、イギリスから日本への輸出品が無税になって、日本車は無税で輸入できるってことなのかな。
これから日本車がイギリスで安く買えるようになるのかな。

一方、日本ではイギリスの商品が安く買えるってことになるけど、イギリスの商品って何だろうな、、、。
一般人の生活にどのように影響するのでしょうか。

イギリスでコロナウイルスの検査を受けると、要請の場合、NHSから連絡が来るみたいです。
私は、まだテストを受けていません。
テストを受けた場合、陽性だったら罰金の生じる法律で、自己隔離を強制されるわけですが、、、。
どうやら、今のところNHSと警察とは連携していないのかな、、、？？
警察に見張られての自己隔離、なんだか恐ろしいです。

Forces will have access to information telling them if an individual has been told to self-isolate, the Department of Health and Social Care (DHSC) said.
But the British Medical Association said it was worried police involvement might put people off being tested.
In England there is a legal requirement to isolate after a positive test.
Police will not have access to data from the NHS Covid-19 app. The app is anonymous so the government does not know who has been sent instructions to self-isolate.

Just under 11% of people traced as a close contact of someone with coronavirus said they self-isolated for 14 days, according to a government-commissioned study.
Reasons given for breaking self-isolation included believing there was no point isolating from strangers if you cannot properly distance from those in your household; not developing symptoms; or visiting shops or a pharmacy.

グレーヘロンは、日本ではあおさぎと呼ばれています。
シラサギよりずっと大きいので、特別感がある鳥です。
イギリスでは、私の見た限りでは、大体一羽で水辺に佇んでいます。
以前、京都街中の川にたくさんいるのを見て、驚きました。



眉毛が伸びた長老のような見た目なので、私は「おじいさん鳥」と呼んで敬っています。
なかなか近づけない水辺にいるので、しっかりした写真が取れません。
望遠レンズが欲しい、、、。

The grey heron (Ardea cinerea) is a long-legged predatory wading bird of the heron family, Ardeidae, native throughout temperate Europe and Asia and also parts of Africa.

A bird of wetland areas, it can be seen around lakes, rivers, ponds, marshes and on the sea coast.
It feeds mostly on aquatic creatures which it catches after standing stationary beside or in the water or stalking its prey through the shallows.

The birds breed colonially in spring in "heronries", usually building their nests high in trees. A clutch of usually three to five bluish-green eggs is laid. Both birds incubate the eggs for around 25 days, and then both feed the chicks, which fledge when 7-8 weeks old. Many juveniles do not survive their first winter, but if they do, they can expect to live for about 5 years.

木に巣を作るとあるけれど、巣を見たことも、ヒナを見たことも、ツガイを見たこともありません。
いつどこへ行けば、見ることができるのかな、、、。

住民税や公共料金は夫の名前で払っているので、私の名前のものはナシ。

銀行の口座詳細を発行してもらうことと、医師からの手紙をお願いするしかないかも。

どちらも時間がかかりそうで頭が痛いですね、、、。

お庭や林、イギリスの田舎では、どこにいても目にする一般的な鳥、ブラックバード。
黄色く縁どられた丸い目と黄色いクチバシ、跳ね上がった尾が可愛い鳥です。
スズメよりは大きく、鳩より全然小さい、、、微妙な大きさの鳥です。

日本語では、クロウタドリと呼ばれ、ツグミの一種だそうです。


このお馴染みの鳥のWikipediaの記事を訳してみました。

The common blackbird (Turdus merula) is a species of true thrush.

It breeds in Europe, Asiatic Russia, and North Africa, and has been introduced to Australia and New Zealand.

Depending on latitude, the common blackbird may be resident, partially migratory, or fully migratory.

The adult male of the common blackbird , which is found throughout most of Europe, is all black except for a yellow eye-ring and bill and has a rich, melodious song; the adult female and juvenile have mainly dark brown plumage.
This species breeds in woods and gardens, building a neat, mud-lined, cup-shaped nest. It is omnivorous, eating a wide range of insects, earthworms, berries, and fruits.

一般的なブラックバード（クロウタドリ）は、ツグミの一種である。
ヨーロッパ、アジアロシア、北アフリカに繁殖している。オーストラリアやニュージーランドにも広がっている。
緯度によって、定住する種、一部的に移住する種、移住する種に分かれる。
オスの成鳥は、クチバシが黄色く、目の廻りが黄色く縁どられ、多彩なメローディーで鳴く。
メスの成鳥と若い鳥は、主に焦げ茶色の羽である。
林や庭で繁殖し、丁寧に泥で縁どられたカップ型の巣を作る。
雑食で、多様な虫や芋虫、実や果実を食べる。

オス、メス共に、繁殖地では縄張り意識が高く、顕著に牽制を表すが、渡っている時や越冬時には群れになることもある。

グレートティットも、イギリスでよく見かける鳥の一つです。
同じスズメ目の瞬息行動のブルーティットに比べると、ちょっと大きくて、落ち着いていて堂々とした動きを見せる子です。
でも、いつもツガイで行動しているのは、ブルーティットと同じですね。
いつ見ても、絶対、二羽一緒に行動してます。かわいい、、、。




さて、こちらがWikipediaの説明文です。


The great tit (Parus major) is a passerine bird in the tit family Paridae.

It is a widespread and common species throughout Europe, the Middle East, Central Asia and east across the Palearctic to the Amur River, south to parts of North Africa where it is generally resident in any sort of woodland; most great tits do not migrate except in extremely harsh winters.

The great tit is a distinctive bird with a black head and neck, prominent white cheeks, olive upperparts and yellow underparts, with some variation amongst the numerous subspecies.

It is predominantly insectivorous in the summer, but will consume a wider range of food items in the winter months, including small hibernating bats.

Like all tits it is a cavity nester, usually nesting in a hole in a tree. The female lays around 12 eggs and incubates them alone, although both parents raise the chicks.
In most years the pair will raise two broods.

The nests may be raided by woodpeckers, squirrels and weasels and infested with fleas, and adults may be hunted by sparrowhawks.
The great tit has adapted well to human changes in the environment and is a common and familiar bird in urban parks and gardens.

他のカラ類と同様に、主に木の穴に巣をつくります。
メスが12個ほど産卵し一人で孵化させますが、両親で育てます。

だいたい一年に2回、ヒナを育てます。

巣は、キツツキ、リス、イタチなどに攻撃されたり、ノミがたかったり、成鳥はハイタカに狩られたりします。
グレートティットは環境における人間の変化に適応し、都市部の公園や庭で一般的に見られます。
