今日はボウリングの日です。
1861年6月22日、The Nagasaki Shipping List and Advertiser　(日本初の英字新聞)にインターナショナル・ボウリング・サロンという日本初のボウリング場の広告が出ました。
これは新聞というか長崎港に入港する船の情報だったり、広告が多数を絞めるタブロイド紙でした。


6月22日の新聞は現存してないようですが、7月10日の新聞にもそのサロンの広告がありました。

INTERNATIONAL BOWLING SALOON. Hirobaba Street. The undersigned respectfully begs ?leaves? to inform the community that the bowling saloon is now open for reception of visitors. A fresh supply of the ?best? description of wines, spirits, &c., &c., will be sold at very moderate prices. The proprietor trusts that they by strict attention to businesses he will merit a receive a share of patronage. HENRY GIBSON. Nagasaki, 22nd June 1861

ボーリング場オープンすること、ワイン、蒸留酒などの酒が廉価で販売されることが記されています。


よく見れば上のコマーシャルホテルにもボウリングできるようなことが書かれています。

COMMERCIAL HOTEL. The undersigned begs to invite the attention of residents and visitors to his house and to assure them that they will at all times find their supplies of liquors of every description and of the best quality, which he will be happy to supply wholesale as well as retail. The house is a commodious building conveniently situated and fitted to accommodate visitors.There is a bowling alley attached for which the undersigned has just received a new set of ligumn vita balls. Wm. WARREN.Nagasaki, 10th July 1861.

こっちの日付は1861年の7月10日ですから、日本初のボーリング場は上記のINTERNATIONAL BOWLING SALOONで間違いないですかね。
