Jim Slater (Richard Widmark) meets Karyl Orton (Donna Reed) in Gila Valley, Arizona. She thinks that he is searching for a gold cache believed to be hidden somewhere in the valley. When a man with a rifle starts shooting at him, Jim wonders if she can be trusted. After Jim kills his foe, he discovers the dead man was a deputy sheriff from Silver City. He takes the body there.

When Sheriff J. C. Marson (Edward Platt) questions him, Jim reveals that he is after the person responsible for his father's death. Jim's father and four other men were besieged and killed by Apaches. Jim believes there was a sixth man who got away and could have gone for help, but instead decided he wanted the gold they found all to himself. ・・・・・・・

1956年の作品「六番目の男」です。
ジョン・スタージェス監督作品で、リチャード・ウィドマーク、ドナ・リードが出演。
原題は”Backlash”で反発だとか反動とかそういう意味があります。


これもTSUTAYAの発掘良品の中にあった作品である。
西部劇だが6人目の男を追うというミステリー的にもなっている。

ドナ・リードって「素晴らしき哉、人生！」が有名ですけど、こういう西部劇にも出てたんですね。

ドンパチやる西部劇がお望みなら、正直言って退屈かも知れない。
そうでないなら1度ぐらいは見てもいいかも。

Carmen, a gypsy seductress is sent to convince Darn Hosiery, the goofy officer in charge of guarding one of the entrances to the city of Sevilla, to allow a smuggling run. She first tries to bribe him but he takes the money and refused to let the smuggled goods in.
She then invites him to Lillas Pastia's inn where she seduces him. After a fight at the tobacco factory where Carmen works, he has to arrest her but later lets her escape. At Lillas Pastia's inn, he kills an officer who is also in love with her and has to go into hiding and he joins the gang of smugglers.
Carmen meets the famous toreador Escamillo and falls in love with him. She accompanies him to a bullfight but Darn Hosiery waits for her and when she tells him that she no longer loves him, he stabs her to death. But it is not for real, Chaplin shows that the knife was fake and both smile at the camera.

1915年「チャップリンのカルメン」です。
自身が監督を務め、主演もしました。

制作に当たっては、エッサネイ社と揉めたようで
エッサネイ社はチャップリンに無断でオリジナル版から、追加撮影し再編集した上で公開しました。
チャップリンはエッサネイ社を訴えましたが、結局公開されてます。

これはオペラ「カルメン」をそのまま作ったのではなく、セシル・B・デミル監督による映画「カルメン」のパロディです。

なんかオチが力抜ける感じだが、これぐらいのほうがいいのか。

1939年12月15日、ジョージア州アトランタで「風と共に去りぬ」のワールドプレミアが行われた。

Gone with the Wind , 風と共に去りぬは著者マーガレット・ミッチェルによる言葉ではなく
アーネスト・ダウスンの詩"Non sum qualis eram bonae sub regno Cynarae"からの引用である。

松竹のサイト

には72分とあり、そういうものかと思っていたが



とあり、どうやら前編後編と分かれており、上映時間は合わせて14巻。
14巻なので2時間から3時間の上映時間と推定され、映像はオリジナルの半分ぐらいしかないことになる。
動画は総集編で、編集されたものである。
なぜ松竹では全く触れられてないのかはわからないが。
オリジナルが失われてしまったのはもったいない。

クレジットを見ると、当時の著名な歌手たちも多く出演している。
淡谷のり子の名前ありますけど、映像には出てきてないですよね。
中野忠晴とか漫才師リーガルも見当たらない。
カットされたのでしょう。
この辺の歌唱映像でもあれば、結構貴重なんですけどね。

流石に内容はわかるような編集でしょうけど、細部がないのでなんとも言い難いですね。

1937年の「若い人」。
概要にあるとおり小説を原作としている。
何度も映像化されている著名な作品だ。

作者は弘前で見聞きした実話を元にしているらしい。
ただ教師と生徒の3角関係みたいなものも描いてることもあって、迷惑がかからないよう函館に舞台が変更されている。
当時としてはかなり際どい内容だったんでしょうね。

あの男はつらいよ「源公」が亡くなったんですね。
1969年の第1作から、8作目を除く全てに出演していて、レギュラーでした。
映画での出番は大きくなく、セリフもちょっとだけというのが多かったが、欠かせない存在なんですよね。

1948年12月10日、第3回国連総会で「世界人権宣言」が採択。
