Introducing Dutch philosophers
Baruch De Spinoza [baːˈrux spɪˈnoːzaː]. In the first place
In the first place, this blog mainly introduces physicists and mathematicians, but I would like to introduce the people who have created the "world view" in these fields.
Giordano Bruno comes to mind as an example of someone who did not engage in quantitative discussions at all, but whose arguments could be said to include quantitative expressions. Spinoza was also known by his Latin name Benedictus De Spinoza, as his writings had a great influence on later generations.
In the first place, I remembered Spinoza's name because of a description in Mr. Ota's book ``Flowers for the Goose Girl'' in connection with Einstein. His works continue to have an important influence on modern philosophy and ethics. His most famous work is Ethics, which systematizes his ethical ideas.
Spinoza's monism
At the core of Spinoza's thought is the concept of ``Deus sive Natura.'' He equated God and nature, and viewed the universe as either God or nature. This idea was by no means atheistic, but rather provided a unique perspective for religious interpretation. Concrete ideology is characterized by a unified view of the universe as God and nature, and is a different way of thinking from atheism. In this way of thinking, the universe itself is considered to be the great existence of God and nature, and all phenomena and events are considered to be a part of it.
This idea is also associated with religious interpretation, but by providing a unique perspective, it can bring new understanding to traditional religious concepts and beliefs. For example, viewing the universe as God or nature can generate awe and reverence for the universe and nature from the perspective of mysticism and nature worship.
In that sense, they are compatible with scientists who have a pious attitude.
Spinoza's ideas are often discussed in the fields of philosophy and religion, and may help us explore new understandings and relationships with the universe and nature, transcending the framework of various religions and beliefs.
Spinoza also deeply considered human psychology and ethics. His ethics emphasized that humans follow the laws of nature in order to pursue true happiness. Therefore, he believed that moral behavior comes from following natural law and brings true freedom and happiness. This seems like an idea that would appeal to many people. Unfortunately, however, because it is a natural ideology, it has no affinity with the idea of paying taxes or annual tribute, or with the idea of imposing military service.
Spinoza's ideas challenged the religious and philosophical framework of his time, and for this he was sometimes persecuted by the authorities. However, his influence was a great inspiration to later generations of philosophers and thinkers, and his importance is still appreciated today.
