稀代の実験家Ｅ・Ｗ・モーレー
その名を書き下すとエドワード・ウィリアムズ・モーリー
（モーレーとも書く時もあります）晩年のオッペンハイマー
とかエジソンと同郷ですね。個人的印象としては
米国4台研究拠点の一つです。他は
カリフォルニア・シカゴ・コネチカット州だと思えます。
其々で最先端の議論が繰り広げられてきたはずです。
何より、モーリーはマイケルソン・モーレの実験で有名です。
別項でも記述しましたが、この実験ではエーテルの
存在に起因する「光速度の変化」は見てとれませんでした。
その事が結果として「光速度普遍の原理」に
繋がっていったのが歴史的な事実です。
モーレの歴史的な位置付け
更に話を掘り下げていくと、
この話は等速運動をする
慣性系においてローレンツやアインシュタインが
考えていたような系の間の関係式へとつながり、
その関係式が更に考える為の材料となって
相対論の理論体系が構築出来ています。
理論の起点と確認点はあくまで実験で
確かめられた自然界の事実なのです。
こういった理論と実験の両輪を考えていく
ダイナミックさが物理学の醍醐味です。
その議論の中で
モーレの仕事は大きな役割を果たしました。
その他。モーレーは、熱拡散に関する研究を行い、
磁場中の光速に関する研究を行い、実績を残しています。
