sound にはよく知られている「音」に関係する意味以外に、
形容詞として使うと「健全な」「健康な」「正しい状態」という意味があります。
なので「safe and sound 安全と正しい状態」という事は、
「正しい状態」→「事故や怪我などが無い」
なので、
「何事も無く無事に」という意味がイメージできます。
よく誰かが遠い所から家に帰った時などに、相手に「ちゃんと無事に着いた？」と確認する時に使われます。
