　先日、ある有能なジャーナリストのひとりと話をしていて、ふと、サイボーグという言葉を使

　臓器移植の技術が急速にひろがりつつある。さきごろ起きた心臓移植にかかわる問題が未解決

で、法律上、倫理上、いろいろと解決しなければならぬ問題をいくつかかかえながら、この技術

はどんどんとり入れられっつある。

　Ｇ・Ｒ・ティラーはジョゼフ・Ｅ・マレー博士が少し前に行なった調査の例を上げてこうい

 

　『マレー博士は、全世界で過去二年間に行なわれた手術三七四例について調査した。最新式の方

法がとられなかった例を除くと、二六二例で、このうち一一〇人の患者は満二年間生存し、いま

も生きている。この数字は全体の半数以下で、明らかに満足できるものではないが、それでもこ

れだけ生存者がいることは、法的、倫理的な問題が、いまやアカデミックな問題をはるかに越え

てしまっている。

 

　免疫反応を完全におさえる方法が発見されたら１それはもう時間の問題だといわれているが

　と語り、さらに、ニューヨーク州オレンジパークのロツクランド州立病院の二人の科学者が、

この考えを更に発展させた。

　研究部長のナタンークライン博士と主任研究員マンフレッドークラインス博士で、

　「薬剤、’宇宙、サイバネティクスーサイボーグヘの進化」

　と題する論文のなかで、地球外のきびしい環境のもとでは、人開か空気を満たした小さな容器
