To the left are obscure, low, dumpy shops
whence issue puffs of air as cold as if coming
from a cellar． Here are dealers in toys, cardboard
boxes, second-hand books． The articles displayed in
their windows are covered with dust, and owing to
the prevailing darkness, can only be perceived indis-
tinctly．

アーケードの左側は気にとめることのない活気のない湿
っぽい店が並んでいる．地下室から来るような冷たい風が
どこからともなく吹き付ける．ここにあるのは、おもちゃ屋、
段ボール箱屋、古本屋などの店だ．陳列ケースの中の商品は
ほこりまみれで、どこまでも暗いこの中では、ほこりすら曖
昧にしかわからない．
