Relationship between the body and water
● Composition of the Body and Water
On average, about 60% of the human body is made up of water.
For newborns, it's about 75%
For adult males, it's about 60%
For adult females, it's about 55%
This is the water content.
This ratio varies depending on the amount of muscle, amount of fat, age, etc.
Water exists in every cell, tissue, and organ in our bodies,
playing an essential role in sustaining life.
● Role of Water
Water has many vital functions for life.
Excretion of metabolic waste
Regulation of body temperature
Transportation of nutrients and oxygen
Lubrication of joints
Production of saliva that aids in digestion
Among many other functions.
Additionally, it helps maintain the shape of cells,
and acts as a medium that aids the reactions of enzymes and hormones.
● Importance of Hydration Balance
The human body uses about 2 to 3 liters of water every day.
It is important to maintain a balance between the water taken in from food and drinks and the water excreted through urine, sweat, and water vapor from breathing.
If water intake is insufficient, it can lead to dehydration,
potentially causing symptoms such as headaches, fatigue, and decreased concentration.
● Appropriate Water Intake
Adequate water intake is essential for maintaining health.
It's recommended to adjust the amount of water intake based on activity levels, temperature, humidity, and other conditions.
Especially during physical activities or in high-temperature environments,
it's crucial to increase the frequency of rehydration.
While we can obtain water from food,
it's generally considered healthy to consciously drink water or unsweetened beverages.
