In a milestone, 70% of all Californians have at least one vaccine dose

Seven out of 10 Californians have now received at least one COVID-19 vaccine dose, a promising milestone that comes as state officials continue to urge more residents to roll up their sleeves for the first, second or even third time to ward off a feared coronavirus resurgence over the winter.

The picture is even rosier when looking just at those who can currently get the shots. Closer to 75% of eligible Californians, those ages 5 and up, are now at least partially vaccinated.

In its first COVID-19 data report since Friday, Massachusetts on Monday reported 5,248 new confirmed coronavirus cases and 24 new confirmed coronavirus deaths. The state also reported 117,870 vaccinations, including booster shots, had been administered, the Department of Public Health said.

The state also reported that 554 patients with COVID-19 were in the hospital.

One more regulatory hurdle remains: On Tuesday, advisers to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention will make more detailed recommendations on which youngsters should get vaccinated, with a final decision by the agency’s director expected shortly afterwards.
