Democrats’ plan to include a path to legal residency for undocumented immigrants in Senate spending bill hits roadblock
The Senate parliamentarian said that including the language in a proposed $3.5 trillion spending bill would be against the chamber’s rules because Democrats are trying to pass it through a special process intended only for tax and spending proposals.
Senate Majority Leader Charles E. Schumer (D-N.Y.) said he was “disappointed” by the Parliamentarian Elizabeth MacDonough’s decision but would continue to look for ways to include language in the bill that would create a path to legal residency for as many as 8 million of the 11 million undocumented immigrants in the United States.

The second pandemic-era Emmys will be broadcast from an events space outside the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles, where a smaller audience of nominees and their guests will be seated at tables under a large tent. Everyone in attendance will be required to show proof of full vaccination as well as a negative coronavirus test.

San Antonio physician Alan Braid says he provided an abortion on Sept. 6 “to a woman who, though still in her first trimester, was beyond the state’s new limit.” A practicing OB/GYN in Texas for 45 years, Braid writes in The Post that “everything changed” when S.B. 8 became law Sept. 1, effectively banning any abortion beyond about the sixth week of pregnancy.

Wildfire scorches the edge of the Giant Forest in Sequoia National Park
A lightning-sparked wildfire in Sequoia National Park has scorched the edge of the Giant Forest, home to some 2,000 giant sequoias that includes one of the world's largest known trees.
The KNP Complex fire has burned through the westernmost tip of the forest near a grouping of giant sequoias that mark the forest's entrance, according to a public information officer. The forest is located east of Fresno.
