Journeys to unknown destination in Japan

Happy New Year.

I spent the year-end and New Year holidays in the snowy Hokuriku region.

On New Year's Eve, after ringing the " joya no kane" at a temple called "Shyokusyo-ji Temple" in Echizen City, Fukui Prefecture, we visited the adjacent "Okafuto Shrine" for the first time of the new year.

Joya no kane is one of the annual events held in Japanese Buddhism during the year-end and New Year holidays. It is to slap the temple bell at midnight on December 31st (New Year's Eve). Joya no kane is struck 108 times in many temples.



It was a cold day with heavy snowfall, but thanks to that, it was very quiet.
In a calm atmosphere, you can hear the sound of the joya no kane from temples here and there.

Neither "Shyokusyo-ji Temple" nor "Okafuto Shrine" are tourist destinations.
They have been in the lives of local people for a long time.

From my own experience, I believe it is very important for people to interact with each other at the individual level as a basis for international mutual understanding.
