Naomi Osaka says she will withdraw from the French Open after her pledge to skip media obligations had set off a controversy
Osaka, the world's No. 2 ranked player and a four-time Grand Slam winner, was fined $15,000 on Sunday for flouting her “contractual media obligations.” She said last week that she would not take part in post-match news conferences during the two-week French Open to safeguard her mental well-being.
Her announcement Monday said that she has suffered from depression since 2018, and that she would withdraw "so that everyone can get back to focusing on the tennis."
