Solar energy should make up nearly 50 percent of U.S. electricity by 2050, Biden administration announces
The new Energy Department goal would scale up production of solar panels, which currently provide 3 percent of the nation’s electricity, to 45 percent over the next three decades. The move would transform the nation’s energy industry and infrastructure, and shows how the president is determined to reshape the economy and cut U.S. greenhouse gas emissions in the face of staunch political opposition.
