Congress overrides a Trump veto for the first time with Senate vote on defense bill
More than two-thirds of the Senate voted to reject the president’s veto of the $741 billion National Defense Authorization Act. The House had already voted by a similar margin on the measure.
President Trump listed numerous complaints about the bill, including a provision ordering the Pentagon to change the names of military installations commemorating Confederate generals, but it now becomes law despite his veto.
