Richard Trumka dies at 72. He was one of the country’s most influential labor leaders and head of the AFL-CIO.
Trumka’s death was confirmed by someone close to him, who was not authorized to reveal the news because a formal announcement had not been made. Trumka was one of the most powerful voices in economic debates, helping to forge policies during both Democratic and Republican administrations. The cause of death could not be immediately learned.
