Jon Gruden resigned as the coach of the Las Vegas Raiders hours after The Times reported he had made homophobic and misogynistic remarks.

“I love the Raiders and do not want to be a distraction,” Gruden said in the statement issued by the team. He added: “I’m sorry, I never meant to hurt anyone.”
