Tanzanian writer Abdulrazak Gurnah has won the Nobel Prize for literature for works that explore the legacies of imperialism on uprooted people.
The Swedish Academy paid tribute to Gurnah's "uncompromising and compassionate penetration of the effects of colonialism and the fates of the refugee in the gulf between culture and continents."
