110 lightning ground strikes hit the Bay Area in one night

The Bay Area saw around 110 cloud-to-ground lightning strikes overnight as a thunderstorm rolled through the region, bringing light rain and drizzle to areas that were under a red-flag warning for high fire danger. The National Weather Service said it counted around 1,100 cloud-to-ground lightning strikes statewide.

The strike in Santa Clara County appeared to be “right in the middle” of the 2020 SCU Lightning Complex burn scar, which Bay Area meteorologists said was good.

All eligible LAUSD students must be vaccinated by January, officials order

All Los Angeles public school children 12 and older must be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 by January to enter campus, according to an order unanimously approved by the Board of Education. It is the first such mandate among the nation's largest school systems. The requirement cements LAUSD's standing as an early adopter of coronavirus safety measures that are wide-reaching and aggressive - a posture that has resulted in both praise and pushback.
