North Korea's grain production
I read the news that the Korea Institute of Development, a South Korean government think tank, announced today that North Korea's grain production last year was an estimated 4.4 million tons, 1.35 million tons short of annual demand of 5.75 million tons.
North Korea has a population of 25 million.
If 1.35 million tons is broken down by 25 million people, it will be 0.054 tons per person.
0.054 (tons per person) = 54 (kilograms per person), or 54 kilograms of food per person per year, is insufficient for demand.
To calculate a year's shortfall into a day's shortfall, you can split it by another 365 days.
The result is a shortage of 148 grams per person per day.
Do you think this number is a lot? Or do you think it doesn't have much of an impact?.
1,350,000 (t/year) ÷25,000,000 (people) ÷365 (days/year) ×1000 (kg/t) ×1000 (g/kg) = 148 (g/person・day)
