Murin-an Villa


It's not such a big garden, but it's a very famous garden that can be said as a textbook of modern Japanese garden.


You can enter not only the garden but also a beautiful house of pure Japanese style.


The bamboo grass in the courtyard is getting too big,

but in the rain you can take tasteful pictures.



Although it's a limited plan until the end of this August,

you can also use a common ticket (\ 1000) between Old Mitsui Family Shimogamo Villa located in Demachiyanagi and The former retreat of Tomomi Iwakura in Iwakura.

Ginkaku-ji Temple and Hakusason-so Villa

First, I introduce Ginkaku-ji Temple.


This garden seems like a contemporary art.

I can't imagine it was designed about 200 years ago... Marvelous!


This architecture is Togu-do, a national treasure.

Although it's not open to the public at the moment,

there is a room called Dojinsai which is the beginning of Japanese tea room.


Next, is Hakusason-so Villa.

It's located in the vicinity of Ginkaku-ji Temple, and you should visit a lotus pond here.


You can enter some of the buildings.



Since there is also an art museum of Kansetsu Hashimoto,

a painter who was active about 80 years ago,

It's also a good idea to avoid intense heat of outside and appreciate masterpieces.

Komyo-in Temple

In this garden, clear and quiet time flows.

（This year, it's unusually hot weather, so the moss is seemed to be a little tired...）


This garden was designed by a genius landscape architect, Mirei Shigemori,

You can see it as a kind of installation work using natural stone.


Highlights are scattered around here and there.



There is no official site of this temple,

if you like Japanese garden, this is a must-see place.

Sanzen-in Temple・Hosen-in Temple


First, I introduce Sanzen-in Temple in Ohara area.

This summer in Kyoto is especially hot, so Ohara and Kibune areas are especially recommended.


Hydrangea was also beautiful in June.



A unique garden covered with beautiful green moss and tall trees can only be seen here.

By the way, Shinden(a center of this temple) is under repair work this year.


Finally, it's a little introduction about Hosen-in Temple.

You can take beautiful pictures famous for as 'the frame garden',

but the main pine tree seemed to be partly undergoing medical treatment.

Jojakko-ji Temple

Jojakko-ji Temple is one of the best autumn leaves sights in Kyoto, but it's also beautiful in other season.


Thatched roof and shining green... It's a typical landscape of summer in Japan.


The shade in summer is just a healing space.


When you go around the garden, you can see Nio-mon Gate looking cool at the end.


The precinct is located on the east facing slope,

so, it's recommended to visit about 9 o'clock in the morning or after 16 o'clock in the evening to avoid summer sunshine.

Tofuku-ji Temple

After the spring, the magnificent cathedral of Tofuku-ji Temple is wrapped in deep green.


The greatest feature of this temple is a green valley that appears suddenly in a quiet residential area.


The ground under the green maple forest is covered lush green moss.



And, you must see beautiful gardens were designed by Mirei Shigemori, a genius landscape architect.

It's always cool!

At the end of June, the preparations for Gion Festival are progressing steadily in Kyoto.

The end of rainy season approached, temples, shrines and mountain greens are getting deeper and thicker.

Giou-ji Temple

There is a unique green color that can only be seen in Giou-ji Temple.


This picture was taken around 4 pm on a sunny day in last year.

It depends on the weather and the performance of the camera, the color is completely different from the picture on the top.


And, this is a moss garden.

It's a spectacle that seems to be able to use in animation or movies.



The time zone of recommendation is morning or evening.

Furthermore, it's the most beautiful time after the rain stops.

2018 No.1　Daigo-ji Temple

The first prize of 2018 is Daigo-ji Temple.



Wonderful cherry blossoms are blooming around the five-storied pagoda

which is the oldest wooden building in Kyoto and Kondo which is the central building of Daigo-ji Temple.


It is also characteristic that there are many big trees showing dynamic blooming.


Among them, a huge drooping cherry tree at Sanpo-in Temple is a must-see.


This tree is a large tree that represents Daigo-ji Temple, the daring and beauty is unparalleled.



This year's cherry blossoms in Daigo-ji Temple were unquestionably No.1 in Kyoto

on the beauty of flowers, powerfulness, lots of highlights, and the likeness of Kyoto.

2018 No.2　Haradani-en Garden

The best 'flower-covered space' in Kyoto is Haradani-en Garden.



Perhaps, there is not a precise placement plan like traditional Japanese garden,

but the scene red weeping cherry blossoms and various flowers are blooming is can't be seen elsewhere.


As there are some garden houses, it's also recommended for cherry-blossom viewing

with bringing your lunch box.

2018 No.3　To-ji Temple

There is a must-see beauty in the night cherry blossom viewing at To-ji Temple.



This year, the cherry blossoms in the precincts didn't bloom all together.

So, we couldn't see "The best performance", but it's still worth enough seeing.



"Fuji cherry tree" also known as the cherry blossom representing Kyoto is sexy.


It's 5-minute walk from Kintetsu Toji Station, and about 20 minutes on foot from Kyoto Station.

Those who are interested in Shingon esoteric Buddhism and Kobo Daishi are sure to come!
