東京銀座の名前の由来

銀座　Ginza


「銀座」とは江戸時代に銀貨を鋳造していた、今で言う造幣局でした。

この造幣局があったため「銀座」という地名になりました。

金座場所もあり、今の日本橋の近くにありました。

「銀座」という街は、１９２３年の関東大震災の後、近代的な市街になり、

東京、そして日本でトップの目抜き通りになりました。

In the Edo period, this was where the government minted

its silver coins, and that's why the place came to be known as Ginza,

or “Silver Mint”.

There was also a gold mint in the area, near present-day Nihonbashi,

but it was Ginza that stuck as the place name.

Having been modernized after the Great Tokyo Earthquake of 1023,

it is known as the most glamorous avenue not just of Tokyo but of the entire country.
