【イメージ】
直訳だと「人がどこから来たか知っている」ですが、
その人の「考え」がどこから来ているか知っている、つまりその人の言っている事が「理解出来る。」という事になります。
【例文】

それは最後の事。

一番最初にやりたい事があったらそれは『the first thing I want to do』です。
一番やりたくない事は順番で言うと『最後 the last』になります。
なので 『一番の first』を『最後の last』に変えるとそれは『かなり嫌な事』を意味します。
【例文】
